Our lives are increasingly resembling a ‘Mission Impossible’ movie, as evidenced by the latest news from OpenAI.

OpenAI revealed on Tuesday that they found an advanced recording device concealed in one of their offices.

An employee planted the device for unknown reasons and was subsequently “terminated” by OpenAI, leading some to humorously question the implications of the term.

The company mentioned that it utilized its own models to comprehend the device’s origin and history, highlighting the reliance on AI for espionage activities.

The U.S. Department of Justice provides further information about the situation. The individual involved is a 35-year-old Saudi citizen named Abdulrahman Alfozan, who was employed as an OpenAI engineer and apprehended by the FBI on October 9th.

He placed a device into a USB port on a TV in an OpenAI executive conference room in one of the company’s San Francisco offices, according to the prosecutors. The wrapped device was found a few days after it was installed on Sept. 28, but its contents were encrypted, as per OpenAI.
